Hands-on learning

At IU Indianapolis, there is a lot more to your academic experience than what you learn in classroom. The RISE initiative allows you to apply your knowledge and skills in real-world settings by participating in four types of experiences:

  • Research opportunities: conducting research or artistic work under faculty mentorship
  • International experiences: travel and learning outside of the United States
  • Service-learning experiences: participation in an organized service activity that meets identified community needs
  • Experiential learning: community-based professional practice activities

After you have completed at least two of the four RISE experiences, your status as a RISE scholar is noted on your IU Indianapolis transcript.

From your first year at IU Indianapolis to capstone experiences, the Profiles of Learning for Undergraduate Success are the basis for all learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom. These Profiles prepare you to engage in local and global communities in ways that solve twenty-first century problems. The Profiles include:
